According to the Journal Express Newspaper in Knoxville, Iowa, a major political candidate is openly supporting a policy of executing felon illegal immigrants who are deported and re-enter the U.S. to victimize Americans.
Iowa State Senator Mark Chelgren is running for office in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District. In a statement to the Journal Express Newspaper, Chelgren stated that he supports executing illegal immigrants who commit felonies and try to re-enter the U.S. after being deported. Chelgren did say that the comments were made during a broader conversation about terrorism prevention.
He was quoted as saying, “I think capital punishment should be considered for people who are felons and re-enter this country illegally, yes,”
Chelgren went on to say, “We have to make sure we are not incentivizing people whose only intent is to victimize.”
Iowa’s Republican and Democratic leadership are unilaterally issuing statements rebuking Chelgren for his comments. One member of the Democratic party in Iowa called Chelgren’s comments, “vile, hateful and downright deplorable.”
Chelgren said that his critics did not carefully read his statements and that his comments about the death penalty pertain only to a “subset” of illegal immigrants.
Agree or disagree, if our past and current leadership had taken he steps necessary to secure our borders, these extreme arguments being made to protect American citizens would not be necessary.
