Our oldest living President has released political chaos…
Former President George Herbert Walker Bush, our 41st President, met with the former Maryland Lieutenant Governor, and his preference in the 2016 election was leaked onto Facebook. Kathleen Hartington Kennedy, the aforementioned Maryland Lt. Gov, and daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy, posted the following:
It was thought that the President and his family would remain silent on the issue, though he, and his son, former President George W. Bush, made political waves when they did not attend the Republican National Convention.
Bush, 92, had intended to stay silent on the White House race between Clinton and Donald Trump, a sign in and of itself of his distaste for the GOP nominee. But his preference for the wife of his own successor, President Bill Clinton, nonetheless became known to a wider audience thanks to Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend, the former Maryland lieutenant governor and daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy.
On Monday, Townsend posted a picture on her Facebook page shaking hands next to the former president and this caption: “The President told me he’s voting for Hillary!!”
In a telephone interview, Townsend said she met with the former president in Maine earlier today, where she said he made his preference known that he was voting for a Democrat. “That’s what he said,” she told POLITICO.
Asked about Townsend’s post, George H.W. Bush spokesman Jim McGrath in an email replied, “The vote President Bush will cast as a private citizen in some 50 days will be just that: a private vote cast in some 50 days. He is not commenting on the presidential race in the interim.”
Reports show that the Bush family is divided on this year’s election. Recently, CNN reported that Jeb Bush is resolutely #NeverTrump but his son, George P. Bush, no longer is.
George P. Bush, the Texas land commissioner, is breaking with his father, a former Donald Trump Republican primary rival, to back the GOP nominee. George P. Bush’s move comes after a nasty Republican primary battle in which Trump repeatedly mocked Jeb Bush, a former Florida governor, as “low energy,” among other insults.
The Texas Tribune reported that at a Saturday gathering of Texas Republican activists Bush said it was time to unite behind Trump in his fall campaign against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
“From Team Bush, it’s a bitter pill to swallow, but you know what? You get back up and you help the man that won, and you make sure that we stop Hillary Clinton,” Bush said.
Just when we thought the election could not get any crazier, Bush announces a vote for the wife of the man who beat him…
