Greta Reveals Why She REALLY Left Fox – It’s Something We Never Expected

With the recent sexual harassment lawsuits filed against Roger Ailes by female personalities at Fox News, and the subsequent departure of Ailes from the network, longtime anchor Greta Van Susteren’s seemingly abrupt decision to leave her position led many to believe it could have had something to do with Ailes and the harassment claims.

News that she had quit her job coincided with reports that Ailes had come to a $20 million settlement agreement with Gretchen Carlson, the original woman to sue him.

Van Susteren had come out strongly in support of Ailes when the sexual harassment allegations first surfaced, saying that after working closely with him for many years, she had never witnessed any unprofessional behavior and respected him greatly as a colleague and friend.

Though her leaving Fox comes at a time when the network is already facing tremendous turmoil, according to the statement she made Tuesday, her decision did not have anything to do with the lawsuits against Ailes.

Here’s what she had to say:

Yes, I have left the Fox News Channel. On Thursday night, I made my decision and informed Fox News of my decision that I was leaving Fox News Channel per my contract. Fox has not felt like home to me for a few years and I took advantage of the clause in my contract which allows me to leave now.

The clause had a time limitation, meaning I could not wait. I love my staff, I love my colleagues, and I love the crews. That is the hardest part of this decision as they are wonderful people.

And most of all? I love the viewers — even the ones who have gotten mad at me over the years and taken swipes.

According to MRC Blog, Fox News claimed that Van Susteren tried to renegotiate her contract after the departure of CEO Roger Ailes, but when they ended up deadlocked, she left the network.

However, the friendship between Van Susteren and Ailes may not have been as close as it seemed, as sources close to both parties have revealed that the anchor had become “troubled by the culture” Ailes had fostered at Fox over the years.
