Even if your attic isn’t really of much use to you, you might want to have a look up there once in a while. One family in Cloppenburg, Germany, made an important discovery and solved a major mystery when a 33-year-old son decided to help renovate the attic in his dad’s house.
That local woman who had disappeared 39 years ago? Turns out she’d been right there all along. It just goes to show you never know — especially if you never pay attention.
All that was left of her was her skeleton and the remains of her shoes, trousers, and multiple jackets, The Local reported.
Police spokesman Josef Schade (whose name means pity, damage or misfortune), reassuringly stated that “a discovery of this type is a very unusual event.”
Police said that a post-mortem and dental analysis left them confident that the body was that of a 28-year-old mother of three who lived about three miles away and had a history of mental illness. On one occasion she had disappeared for six weeks and eventually was found in the woods, Newser reported.
“We assume she lay down to sleep and froze to death in the attic,” Schade said.
