Police are being fired upon by at least one active shooter with a long rifle.
The area is on lock-down.
UPDATE: One person is in custody after an active shooter was reported in Carolina Beach.
According to an e-mail from the town, law enforcement officers responded to the 1600 block of Sea Ray Lane for a call of shots fired. Carolina Beach Police Chief Chris Spivey said that when officers arrives, more shots were fired from what seemed to be a rifle. Crews quickly blocked traffic and got neighbors out of the way.
Spivey says one suspect and one weapon are in custody.
Officers searched the area to make sure there are no more threats.
According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, at this point, there are no known injuries to citizens or law enforcement.
According to tweets from New Hanover County Schools, Bus 299 from the school were rerouted to Anderson Elementary, where parents could pick up students. Buses from Murray Middle School and Ashley High School that were headed to Carolina Beach are being held at the schools until further notice.
