John Newton grew up in the 1700’s without any particular religious conviction, but ended up writing one of the most popular Christian hymns in history. As a young man, Newton was conscripted into the British Royal Navy, and after leaving the service became involved in the Atlantic slave trade. In 1748, a violent storm battered his ship so severely that he cried out to God for mercy. He made it back to shore safely and immediately left the slave trade to live his life for God.
Out of this experience, Newton penned the world famous and much loved hymn, Amazing grace. It is perhaps the most well known hymn in history.
Chris Tomlin a popular Christian singer upgraded this song and Tto sisters, Kendra and Krista , got together last Mother’s Day to record their version of “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)” a popular remake of the classic hymn.
