Actor-director Mel Gibson’s new Christian-themed film received a 10 minute standing ovation at the 73rd Venice Film festival where it was shown.
Hacksaw Ridge is Gibson’s new Christian based film. It is based on the story of Private Desmond T. Doss who joined the army during World War II to save lives instead of to kill others, due to his Christian faith and beliefs.
Gibson agreed to making the film 2 years ago. He had great success previously with the Passion of the Christ.
The film stars Andrew Garfield as Doss and also stars Vince Vaughan, Sam Worthington, and Hugo Weaving. It is set to be released in the U.S. on November 4.
