He armed himself with a pistol, a rifle, and a shotgun, and ventured outside. He had been snorting cocaine.
The unidentified shooter hid when police and first responders arrived to treat the victims. A firefight ensued, with the gunman eventually dying at the hands of the police.
The motive for the shooting remained under investigation, but Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina said the 45-year-old assailant was on a cocaine binge that had prompted his wife and two children to leave the family’s home Monday evening.

Update: Some reports say the shooter was a female! Not verified at this time.
Initial reports said that two had been shot. Now we know that at least for people have been hit, possibly more. At least one person is dead.
The suspect was armed with an assault rifle with “a rapid fire capability,” Hunt said. Police don’t know if the rifle is fully or semi-automatic.
The shooter immediately fired at least 20 shots at police, said the source.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Scroggin said police were dealing with at least one suspect who was heavily armed. Residents have been advised to shelter in place.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is assisting local police.
