This Superintendent of Schools must be a cross between Barack Obama and The Grinch That Stole Christmas!
Somehow our government has managed to get an entire school district placed on the naughty list!
Beth Graser, Communications Director for the Hillsboro School District in Oregon, announced that the district had mandated strict guidelines to administrators, teachers, and faculty on the appropriate ways to decorate hallways and classrooms.
An excerpt from the memo read:
You may still decorate your door or office if you like, but we ask that you be respectful and sensitive to the diverse perspectives and beliefs of our community and refrain from using religious-themed decorations or images like Santa Claus.
The memo was meant for internal use for school district staff, but parents found out about it, and they are not happy.
I agree with the parent who said that Santa Claus is seen as more of a general symbol of generosity and happiness rather than as a religious figure. If my child were a student in this district, I would like dress them in the Christmas apparel of their liking. I wonder if children are the next to be censored in this district’s war on Christmas?
The controversy raises another set of interesting questions: While mandates such as this one are no surprise with Barack Obama as President, will things change under President Donald Trump?
Trump has already called for punishments for those who burn the American Flag. What do you think he will do about the traditions surrounding traditional American Holidays, such as Christmas?
Christmas in Obamaville will soon be replaced by Christmas in Trump Town. The Grinch is leaving The White House?
Will the assault on American traditions continue, or will it slow down?
Call me an optimist but I believe that things are getting better.
