Kneeling during the National Anthem has cost Colin Kaepernick and the NFL dearly, so now he does this? Brilliant, right?
The San Francisco 49ers are 1 and 8. Colin Kaepernick has managed to start, though he just scored his FIRST rushing touchdown of the season.
NFL television ratings are still in the gutter. One would think that Colin Kaepernick would heed the advice of Champion Floyd Mayweather and focus on being a better quarterback, rather than protesting “oppression.”
Kaepernick has been the starting quarterback for a few weeks, but the embattled San Francisco 49ers are not any better off than before. Even though Kaepernick finally rushed for a touchdown, the opposing Arizona Cardinals went on to win the game, 23-20.
The sports television market has become increasingly competitive. People enjoy watching college football, college basketball, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship. When Kaepernick and players like him started protesting during the National Anthem earlier this year, we all learned an important point: Viewers do not want to watch millionaire players protest before, during, or after the game! People tune it to watch football, not weird, whiny political statements.
Kaepernick makes $19 million per year to lead a losing team and throw interceptions. Offending the customer base is simply bad for an already struggling business.
Then, of course, we have Kaepernick’s statement on the 2016 Presidential Election:
“You know, I think it would be hypocritical of me to vote. I said from the beginning I was against oppression, I was against the system of oppression,” Kaepernick said, according to SF Gate. “I’m not going to show support for that system. And to me, the oppressor isn’t going to allow you to vote your way out of your oppression.”
Now, he has decided to double down on his protests, this time adding a new twist after finally rushing for a score.
