Is this one more attempt to steal the Election and/or discredit Trump?
The Presidential Election of 2016 was historic on a number of levels. Perhaps, the most positive element of the Election was the exposure of corruption at the highest levels of Washington, D.C.. Unfortunately, for Hillary Clinton, her time as Secretary of State, and her ties to the Clinton Foundation, were exposed as being corrupt by organizations such as WikiLeaks and Anonymous. The Democrat National Committee was also exposed during the long campaign season. The entire time, Hillary and the Democrats cried foul, saying that Russian hackers were interfering with the Election in an attempt to make Donald Trump the President.
The New York Times reported that there is little or no evidence of Russian hacking in the Election of 2016:
For much of the summer, the F.B.I. pursued a widening investigation into a Russian role in the American presidential campaign. Agents scrutinized advisers close to Donald J. Trump, looked for financial connections with Russian financial figures, searched for those involved in hacking the computers of Democrats, and even chased a lead — which they ultimately came to doubt — about a possible secret channel of email communication from the Trump Organization to a Russian bank.
Law enforcement officials say that none of the investigations so far have found any conclusive or direct link between Mr. Trump and the Russian government. And even the hacking into Democratic emails, F.B.I. and intelligence officials now believe, was aimed at disrupting the presidential election rather than electing Mr. Trump.
Others in government are more skeptical:
“The US Intelligence Community is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including from U.S. political organizations,” officials said in a statement to NBC. “We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts, that only Russia’s senior-most officials could have authorized these activities.”
Today, the Obama Administration announced a full review of the Election Results. They are positioning the effort as a National Security Measure.
“We may have crossed into a new threshold and it is incumbent upon us to take stock of that, to review, to conduct some after-action, to understand what has happened and to impart some lessons learned,” said Lisa Monaco, Mr Obama’s counterterrorism and homeland security adviser.
The announcement comes amid calls for the recounts from activists and computing experts, who allege anomalies in voting results in crucial states that led to a Trump win.
Obama expects results of this investigation to be presented to him before he leaves office on January 20th.
President-Elect Trump has stated publicly that he does not believe that the Russians interfered in the Election, and that accusations of such are “politically motivated.”
Do you believe the Russian Hacking allegation had an effect on the Election, or is this simply sour grapes from the Democrats, or an attempt to discredit Trump?
