As the death toll continues to rise in Chicago every year, an after Christmas bloodbath shouldn’t be too surprising. Most of the killings were done by gang members that were going after other gangs as they gathered for Christmas. The death toll reached a staggering total of 750 people killed with a firearm this year alone. We all know Chicago has been known to have some of the strictest gun laws in America, but after the number of deaths this year, even the Chicago Police Chief seems to think they may want to rethink their gun laws. There have been many critics of Chicago gun laws for years and they are FINALLY admitting that criminals don’t “play by society’s rules.”
CNN of course tried to push even further gun control by reporting FAKE NEWS. This CNN reporter says, “The Police Superintendent is calling on policymakers to enact stricter guns laws” which he did not say. WLS reports the Superintendent saying, “These gun offenders have repeatedly shown us that they’re not going to play by society’s rules.” Not quite the same, is it. Either way, time will tell if Chicago’s Police Chief is serious about stopping the killing and arming its citizens.
The violence started with a non-fatal shooting around 4:30 pm Friday. It ended with a non-fatal shooting around 11:30 pm Christmas night.
A double-homicide ushered in the midnight hour on Friday when “two men walked out of a West Side Austin neighborhood home in the 500 block of North Laramie, and at least one person opened fire on them.” Both men were struck multiple times and killed.
The last of the holiday weekend fatalities occurred around 9:20 pm on Christmas night. Chicago Police indicate “people were gathered for a party on the porch of a home in the 8600 block of South Maryland when someone wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt walked out from an adjacent alley and opened fire.” Five individuals were wounded and two were killed as a result.
Approximately 30 people were shot over Christmas weekend 2015 in Chicago, resulting in six fatalities.
