According to Robert Barragan, a freshman at Hug High School, he witnessed two other male students fighting outside of the school library. One student pulled a knife on the other. It is unclear at this time if either boy was cut.
A group of teens has been detained and a medical triage center has been set up in the school parking lot.
Reportedly, one teen was shot in the shoulder. Police are certainly investigating the cause of this incident, especially if it were gang-related or if follow-on violence is likely at the school.
It is unknown at this time if there are racial implications of the shooting. With the recent protests that have followed police shooting, such as the atrocities in Charlotte, North Carolina, city and state officials are certainly concerned.
We will continue to follow the story and provide updates as we have them.
