The friends checked her social media postings and found that she went out on a date with a former university student, 26-year-old Emmanuel Delani Valdez Bocanegra.
Police took Bocanegra in for questioning. During a search of his home, officers found remains of human bones in garbage bags on the balcony of his apartment.
According to police, the remains were placed next to cans of Sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid.

Her clothes were found hidden in a bag inside his apartment.
The two had met through the Tinder dating application, and they met several times during the few months leading up to her disappearance.
Bocanegra was arrested in Mexico City. He allegedly told police that he killed Ibarra after she refused to have sex with him.
