Green Day came out with a lyric video Monday for a new protest anthem that attacks President-elect Donald Trump just days before his inauguration.
The new track is called “Troubled Times,” from their latest album “Revolution Radio.”
The music lyric video uses historical images from the women’s suffrage movement and the civil rights movement, with a monster-like caricature of Trump.
This is not the first time the band has attacked Trump. In November, during ABC’s American Music Awards show the band took the stage shouting “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist U.S.A.” on live television.
The band’s lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong bemoaned the election results.
“[A]s the outcome of this election is still sinking in i’m left wondering what the hell to do,” Armstrong wrote after the election. “what to think.. what to say. like the vast majority of you i want to say SOMEthing.”
“[O]ur social progress got punched in the face. hard. it’s hard to tell if we made any progress at all.. the dark side of our better angels have spoken.. they gloat.. they cheer.. i pity them,” he added. “i pity them because they have no clue what they’ve gotten our country into. or the world for that matter.. but one thing is for sure. racism, misogyny, transphobia, homophobia, and xenophobes have no place in around green day and/or any green day event.”
I never thought they were that great when they came out, this video reminds me of why.
