Guess Who Was Arrested Alongside Al Sharpton’s Daughter At Trump Tower

Eric Garner’s mother was arrested Tuesday night during a protest against the Supreme Court nominee outside Trump Tower in New York.

Gwen Carr, Garner’s mother, was taken into custody along with the Rev. Al Sharpton’s daughter, Ashley Sharpton, reports the New York Post.

“In an act of civil disobedience and in the tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Eric Garner’s mom and others were arrested tonight…over President Trump’s SCOTUS nominee Neil Gorsuch,” Rachel Noerdlinger, a spokeswoman for Sharpton, said.

The protest, organized by the National Action Network, drew about 30 protesters. Carr and others stood outside Trump Tower for an hour, holding signs reading “Indivisible” and “A man of quality will never fear equality.”

“He’s not representing all of the people and it’s a public office, and you can’t really have a public office and run it for your own self-profit. It’s a public office for all of the people and he needs to represent all of the people,” NYC resident Kim Kahn said.

Police eventually arrested 11 of the protesters, including Carr and Ashley. Police said the protesters were obstructing traffic. Carr was slapped with a disorderly conduct charge, according to a police spokesman.

Carr turned to activism after the death of her son made national news. Garner died in 2014 after a police officer put him in a chokehold. The exchange was caught on camera, showing Garner uttering the phrase, “I can’t breathe.”

President Donald Trump named Neil Gorsuch as his Supreme Court nominee Tuesday night. Democrats were outraged by the announcement and immediately began criticizing Gorsuch.
