The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence estimates that in the United States roughly 20 people are physically abused by their partner every 60 seconds. In just one year, that is about 10 million men and women affected. Domestic abuse is alive, and very real. Sadly, this story is one of the worst cases (not ending in death) I’ve ever come across.

A by the book definition of domestic violence can be defined as willful intimidation, battery, sexual assault, or physical assault by one intimate partner against another. This story covers the journey of Carleigh Hager, 25 and her boyfriend Ryan Cameron, 26.

Domestic abuse usually starts out for a the victim as seen as an isolated incident. Usually they think that it wont happen again, or they can change the abuser of their ways and “fix” them. They make excuses for them to themselves and their loved ones that may notice what’s happening. Oftentimes, the victim even blames themselves because they feel like they’ve done something wrong to trigger this person into harming them.

Domestic abuse can often be very hard to get away from if you truly love the person who’s doing the abusing. However, it’s absolutely necessary because it can save your life! Read below to continue on with Carleigh’s domestic abuse story with her then boyfriend Ryan Cameron.

After Her ‘Prince Charming’ Rips Out Her Tongue, Woman Issues Important Warning To Others

Domestic violence is real. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence estimates that in the United States about 20 people are physically abused by an intimate partner every minute. In one year, that is about 10 million men and women.

Domestic violence can be defined as willful intimidation, battery, sexual assault, or physical assault by one intimate partner against another. Carleigh Hager, 25, fell in love with a charming man named Ryan Cameron, 26.

The couple seemed to have the perfect relationship in the pictures that were posted on social media.

Within just a few months, Cameron started to abuse Hager verbally.

Then he punched her in the stomach when she cried.

Then in October, Hager suffered serious injuries when Cameron attacked her. The assault started with yelling and name calling. Then, according to Hager, Cameron tried to rip her tongue out with his bare hands.

Cameron bit her ear, nose, and fingers. Then Cameron put his hands over her mouth and nose so she couldn’t breathe. Some of Hager’s friends called the police. Hager has gone to social media to warn people about the dangers of domestic violence.

Hager pleaded with people to not ignore the warning signs. If you are in a relationship and are being verbally or physically abused – tell someone. If you know someone that is being abused – get them help.

Hager almost died because she didn’t tell someone. Don’t be ashamed or embarrassed – get help. IN the U.S. the number for the National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233. Visit their site for an online chat session
