Authorities have reported that the 17-year-old teen is believed to have made an improvised bomb in his bedroom just to impress a girl, but instead has wind up accidentally blowing off his own hand.
The investigative committee, looking into the case, reported that pictures even appear to show that the Russian lad had posed for a photo with his bomb-making kit at his flat on Vasilievskiy Island in Russia’s second city of St. Petersburg. The teen, who was identified only by the name Andrey K by the press, is thought to have accidentally detonated the explosive devices.
The boy with a great interest in Chemistry, who is a student in one of the universities in St Petersburg, was thought to have discussed the bomb-making online. In an investigation, police has found evidence of the online chats where the boy was seen showing off to a girl by telling her about the bomb. In the conversations he admitted having explosives at home and has claimed to be helping a friend to make a bomb.
Immediately, A SWAT team responded the incident and has descended on his flat after the blast and began searching through his possessions.
In an article published in Metro, the bomb detonation is believed to be accidental and occurred only weeks after the terrorist attack on the city’s metro system which killed 11 and injured dozens more.
The lad was immediately brought to St. Mary Magdalena where he was placed in a medically induced coma as he underwent surgery. He is currently being treated after losing one hand while the other has been badly damaged in the explosion.
Local police are now investigating the case and are said to be deciding whether to bring charges against the hapless teen.
