The 10-year-old chased his dog, who had gotten loose, into traffic near the intersection of Wayne Road and Melton Street on Saturday evening when they both were struck by a truck, family members say.
Both died of their injuries.
Now Gage’s family and friends are left devastated by the tragic turn of events. They’ve set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral. By Sunday evening, the page had raised more than $12,800 of an $11,000 goal.
“The family is going to need us all to pull together and help them through this very hard time,” the appeal says. “Gage being only 10 years old did not have any life insurance.”
Police say a 69-year-old driver struck Gage at about 7 p.m. Saturday. The youngster was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The driver was not injured and had not been charged in the accident. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor, authorities say.
“Tonight God took another angel way too soon,” the page says.
