A man was arrested after sneaking into a girl’s restroom in a shopping mall and attempt to rape a teenage girl.
Ibrahim Barry. 24-years old, was accused sneaking into a girl’s restroom on the second floor of Time Warner Center at around 10 am Friday. Barry peeked over a dividing wall, and crawled under a stall occupied by the 18-year old girl.
According to reports, he said “Hey” to the woman and removed his pants showing his underwear. “Is it okay if I touch,” he asked the teenage girl.
The shock teenage girl screamed in panic, crawled into another stall trying to escape which alerted the store attendants. Then Barry got scared and fled the scene.
Hours later, officers reviewed the surveillance video and a video camera just outside the restroom where the incident occurred, then released a surveillance image of the suspect.
Barry was spotted by a civilian who recognized him through a photo that was released by officers. The suspect was arrested in the Olinville section of the Bronx early Saturday, officials said.
In a statement, the Time Warner Center said: ‘This morning, building security was alerted to an incident in a public restroom and immediately responded and notified the New York Police Department. ‘Time Warner Center Security continues to coordinate and work closely with the NYPD as they conduct their investigation.’
The mall is located in Columbus Circle on the southwest corner of Central Park, in an area of Manhattan popular with tourists.
According to authorities, Barry has had criminal records and his recent crime is his 13th arrest so far.
Ibrahim Barry was charged with attempted rape and was held without bail.
Meanwhile, the victim who has not been identified appears to be uninjured.
