A 19-year old teen is facing life in prison for sexually assaulting 10 women some of which he met through a dating app.
According to Anchorage Police Department, the suspect whom authorities have identified as, Jim Pressey, 19-years old from Alaska, two woman notified APD that they have been sexually assaulted by the suspect. Anchorage Police Department investigated the allegations and Persey was arrested.
According to a local report, the two victims voluntarily met with the Persey on separate occasions trough a mobile application called “MeetMe” and agreed to have consensual sex.
However their sexual encounters turned violent as one of the victims claimed that she was choked by the suspect until she was “seeing stars”, and forced her to have sex with him.
The second victim claimed that she was also choked by Persey, held her at knifepoint, and warned her not to leave the house. She managed to escape to a neighbor’s house and ask for help.
Following the suspect’s arrest, eight more women came forward and claiming that they have been a sexually assaulted by Persey.
According to the Anchorage District Attorney’s Office, the alleged assaults began in 2014, when Persey was 16 years old, with women between the ages of 15 and 20.
Assistant District Attorney Gustaf Olson, the prosecutor on the case, said “I think the primary message is that you have a right to say ‘no’. A consent isn’t a one-time thing and consent is not just to one act but all of those acts. All have to have consent, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Some victims of sexual assault may think that they haven’t been sexually assaulted or they can’t report because they previously consented to a sexual encounter…that’s not true.”
Jim Persey, has been charged with felony charges, 13 of which are for sexual assault in the first degree. Other charges include causing physical injury with a “dangerous instrument.” He is being held on $100,000 bail and could face 99 years if convicted.
