Yale Republicans Hold Community BBQ Near Student ‘Hunger Strike’

A group of Yale College Republicans hosted a barbecue on Friday, right next to eight graduate students teachers who were taking part in a ‘hunger strike.’

According to Breitbart, the eight student teachers were protesting the administration’s refusal to negotiate with their newly formed union, which had asked for more benefits.

The protesters sat in a tent outside the university President’s home. They hadn’t eaten for three days when the Yale Republicans decided to host a barbecue for the local community, right next to the tent.

Local 33, the union staging the protest, is a subgroup of UNITE HERE, an international labour union.

Aaron Greenberg, the Local 33 Chairman, reportedly told the New Haven Register, “I’m not really focused on that. I’m focused on making sure we have lots of water, make sure I’m healthy. We have a check in with our nurse this afternoon. We are focused on that.”

Greenberg also commented on the university’s decision to ignore negotiations, claiming the administration had taken an anti-union stance.

“I think that is unacceptable. I think that is despicable. They say we have to wait, so we are waiting without eating,” he said.

Many others were focused on the barbecue however, leading to more mocking of the ‘symbolic’ hunger strike.
