Neighbor Spots Knife-Wielding Madman Attempting To Drown His Children And Takes Swift Action

An Oklahoma man was shot and killed by his neighbor on June 2 while attempting to drown his 3-month-old twins. Leland Michael Foster, 27,  reportedly held the mother at bay with a knife while attempting to drown his babies in a tub. The mother frantically called 911 while the 12-year-old granddaughter of the homeowner ran to a neighbor’s house screaming for help.

The man’s neighbor, Cash Freeman, quickly armed himself with his pistol and entered the home where he discovered Foster in the bathroom holding the babies underwater while he was also fighting the mother off with a knife. Bratcher said that Freeman shot Foster two times, ending his life.

When police arrived, the two young children were taken by EMS paramedics, who proceeded to transport them to the hospital. The twins, who were born prematurely, were reported to be in stable condition and are scheduled for release from the hospital very soon.

Freeman was briefly questioned by police but was quickly released. Bratcher said the man’s actions will be reviewed by the district attorney’s office to determine whether he will face any charges for the incident.

In an interview, Freeman explained he did what was necessary to save the young babies lives but fears that he could be charged for using lethal force.

Summer Pierce, a neighbor, thinks Freeman should not have to face any charges. “I think he did the right thing because who knows what would happen, because who knows what would have happened to the babies if he hadn’t intervened,” Pierce said. “They might not have made it.”

The Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy and toxicology screening on Foster’s body to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.

Foster had a prior record for charges ranging from arson to domestic abuse. Back in 2011, police responded to Foster’s home on a domestic abuse complaint. They discovered a pile of clothes burning on a mattress and a bathtub filled with water and various electronics as reported by NewsOK.
