The number of Veterans in America is steadily on the rise after the many years of the Middle East conflicts, and that makes for a very interesting situation when the rise of teenage crime is also daily on the rise. More and more stories are coming out where ill-raised youth have ignorantly tried to rob or otherwise attack combat veterans, and only realize their horrible mistake after it is way too late to back out.
This latest robbery attempt by four Houston teens was no different. After having a gun placed to his head, Marine Veteran, Alexander Borrego’s instincts kicked in and he was able to grab and use the boys own firearm against him, hitting him twice. This Veteran saved his own family and gave the kids a hell of a lesson that they surely won’t soon forget.
According to the American Lookout :
Some teens in Houston recently made a very dumb mistake. They approached a man in his garage and attempted to rob him. What they didn’t know was that the man was a Marine veteran who was armed.
Four teenagers try to rob a Marine veteran in Houston — he instantly makes them regret it.
Around 10:30 p.m. Friday night, four teenage males walked up to Alexander Borrego’s house, pulled out a gun and tried to rob him. Borrego told KPRC-TV that one of the teenagers stuck the gun to his head. However, little did they know, Borrego was both a Marine and armed with a pistol.
“One came alongside, through here, and next thing I knew I had a gun to the back of my head,” Borrego said. “They told me to get up, so, I stood up. My garage door was open so, my main concern was my family at that point.”
Borrego told KPRC his military training kicked in when the gun was placed against his head. He said he swiped the gun away and began firing at the boy with the gun, shooting him in the torso and leg.
After Borrego began firing in self-defense, the boys scattered and ran to the home of the teenager who was shot. That boy’s mom took him to the hospital, where he is in serious condition. However, the boy is expected to survive.
Borrego appeared very pensive in his interview with KPRC and was very uncomfortable with what he had to do. Still, he said he did what he needed to do to protect his family.
“I don’t have hate for them,” Borrego said. “It’s sad, but hey, I had my pistol — I thank God for that.”
According to KPRC, Borrego’s wife took to social media to thank God and praise her husband after the incident.
“You hear about stuff like this all the time, but never think it would happen to you. This could have ended terrible for my family and I, but I think God, everyone watching over us and Alexander Borrego for stopping them from coming inside. I am so proud of you babe. #MyHero,” she reportedly said.
Will Borrego face any charges?
According to KPRC, he will not.
None of us know how we will react to a situation like this, and when the criminals are teenagers it is more of a concern, but to be a Veteran and to have to face this situation is a sad reality of the complete lack of respect and order being taught to our youth in America. They probably won’t be trying this again, but parents seriously need to step it up and start teaching their kids some manners.
