A small but vocal group of protesters gained media attention in Fresno, Calif., when they gathered to criticize the local school district’s decision to hire a teacher they feel is the wrong color to teach students in a new school.
Rev. Karen Crozier stood outside of Rutherford B. Gaston Middle School Monday morning, flanked by several other protesters, and told reporters that Peter Beck – a white man – is incapable of teaching minority students based entirely on his race.
“We’re just saying what the community wants,” she asserted. “We didn’t fight for a white male or female teacher to educate our babies.”
Her statement flies in the face of civil rights movements designed to promote racial equality. Instead, she and her fellow protesters want to make sure that whites are punished for their skin color when they feel it is appropriate.
“We still are at these racial fault lines,” she continued; “and we want someone who will be able to think critically about those racial fault lines and how do we help heal to restore the problems that have existed.”
Something tells me that when Martin Luther King, Jr., had a dream, this isn’t at all what he imagined. We can all thank Obama and his regime for setting race relations back to the civil rights era.
