During an October 1 2014 appearance on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper, gun control advocate Mark Kelly said such laws are “never going to stop” all gun violence.
Kelly was specifically responding to a question about “mass shootings” and “school shootings” like the 2012 attack on Sandy Hood Elementary when he said this.
In the CNN video of the segment, Tapper described the ongoing gun control push by Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly as an attempt to end the “seemingly endless stream of shootings in schools and campuses and public places across…America.” He pointed to Giffords/Kelly’s new book, “Enough,” ( tiny.cc/pz43mx ) in which Kelly says “he supports the Second Amendment, the right to keep and bear arms, but…proposes restrictions” which “should appeal to gun lovers.”
Tapper then welcomed Kelly to the show and asked: “When you hear about ‘school shootings’ or other ‘mass shootings’ in public, what law can actually stop them?”
Kelly responded: “You’re never going to stop all of them.” He then he gave a pitch for the kind of expanded background checks and online firearm sales regulations that were contained in Senator Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) failed gun control bill.
Ironically, Breitbart News previously reported that Manchin admitted gun control could not stop a “committed criminal” from getting a gun and said his own post-Sandy Hook gun control legislation would not have prevented the attack on Sandy Hook.
