Gary police say a 13-year-old boy was fatally shot by a neighbor who became enraged when the teen laughed at him when the man discovered that his home had been burglarized.
Lt. Thomas Pawlak tells the Post-Tribune Kobe Jones was pronounced dead Friday evening at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
Pawlak says a neighbor shot Jones nine times after the teen laughed at him as the man began yelling in anger outside his burglarized home.
Pawlak says the man and his girlfriend fled the scene in a car but returned about two hours later and were arrested. He says they were being held at the city jail and charges are pending.
A telephone message left Saturday with Gary’s police spokeswoman seeking additional information was not immediately returned.
