Sony Executives Mock Obama In Leaked Emails: ‘Should I Ask
Him If He Liked DJANGO?’
In a massive leak where executives’ salaries, unfinished scripts, and contracts were made public, emails exchanged between Sony executives were also leaked.
In a series of newly-leaked emails, Hollywood film producer Scott Rudin and Sony Pictures Chair Amy Pascal traded insults about Barack Obama, jokingly predicting which movies starring black people were his favorite.
Obama was set to attend a breakfast held at Jeffrey Katzenberg’s home, Dreamworks Animation CEO, and the day before Rudin and Pascal joked about potential conversation topics at ”at this stupid Jeffrey breakfast,” Variety reports.
Rudin told Pascal to ask if Obama would like “to finance some movies.”
“I doubt it. Should I ask him if he liked DJANGO?” Pascal asked Rudin, referring to Quentin Tarantino’s slave flick, “Django Unchained.”
Rudin replied with only “12 Years,” alluding to the slavery drama set in a pre-Civil War United States, “12 Years A Slave.”
“Or the butler. Or think like a man?” Pascal said.
“I bet he likes Kevin Hart,” Rudin said, referring to the popular black comedian.
In a statement to the New York Times, Rudin had this to say (prior to these latest emails being released):
“This is not about salacious emails being batted around by Gawker and Defamer. It’s about a criminal act, and the people behind it should be treated as nothing more nor less than criminals.”
