The contents of a time capsule discovered at Bidwell Mansion on November 4th remain a mystery, but State Parks officials say they are closer to discovering what’s inside.

California State Parks Valley Sector Superintendent Aaron Wright told Action News Now that paper specialists from San Francisco came to Chico last week and examined the time capsule’s contents. It was determined that the parchment everyone has seen is protecting documents, but further examination could not be done without inflicting damage.

The paper experts told Parks officials the document should be hydrated before it is opened.

Officials are in the process of finding a facility equipped to hydrate the documents, but hope to have answers in the near future.
