Son pays parents’ mortgage for Christmas, leaves them (and the Internet) in tears

In what was arguably the best Christmas present of 2014, Joey Riquelme’s life-changing present to his parents left the pair (and most of the Internet) in tears.

Video: A son gave his parents the ultimate gift this Christmas, an envelope with a bill from Bank of America and a note saying their house’s mortgage is paid off. The best part, he captured the memorable moment on camera. NBC’s Betty Nguyen has the story from the Orange Room.

Riquelme’s iPhone video editor app, Videoshop, has been so successful that he was able to pay off his parents’ mortgage for Christmas. A video of the gift-giving shows Riquelme and his parents snuggling on the couch on Christmas morning, when Riquelme hands his parents an envelope that reads: “Your house is paid off. Merry Xmas – Joe”

Riquelme posted the video on YouTube under the name JoeyTrombone, and it quickly went viral, with many touched by the gift of a lifetime.

“Sometimes the best gifts come in the lamest packages,” Riquelme wrote on Facebook.
