- LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Police said nobody was injured after they exchanged gunfire with suspects that are wanted in connection with a robberyin which a De Smet Jesuit graduate was killed.
Illinois State Police said officers followed three suspects from East St. Louis to a convenience store in Washington Park where they tried confront them.
Police say they located Robert Christman, 19, seated in the front passenger seat of a vehicle, unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound to the head just after midnight Sunday near the intersection of 15th and Delmar, north of Washington Avenue. He died later at a St. Louis hospital.
“St. Louis City police determined there were leads to follow in Illinois, they informed East St. Louis police and came over to do surveillance,” said Lt. Dave Bivens with Illinois State Police.
Police said the men, who were driving a stolen Chrysler Sebring, took off down an alley while shooting back at officers.
“They had three subjects in the suspects’ vehicle jump out of the moving car and flee on foot. However, before they fled, one of the subjects continued to fire at police. One off the officers returned fire,” Bivens.
The three men got away, but police said they may know someone in the area who hid them.
