Remayah Hernandez, 5, paid a painful price for trying to pet her neighbor’s Labrador. “He bit me in the face, and I went to the hospital because I got bitten by the lips,” she said.
The dog’s owner said he couldn’t understand why his Labrador would maul the child. “He was just a great dog, he was a very nice dog,” said Nehemias Gaspar, the owner of the Labrador.
Gaspar’s pet canine was killed by Hernandez’s pit bull, named Trigger, after he jumped a fence to come to Remayah’s rescue. “He’s like a hero,” said Remayah’s mother, Lucila Hernandez. “He’s a protective dog. We taught him to be protective and caring for the family.”
“He’s a superhero,” said Remayah.
Remayah’s family was saving money for a trip to Disney World, but had to ultimately use it to pay for her plastic surgery. They have set up a new account to raise money to help pay for that trip. If you’d like to donate to a fund started to benefit the Remayah, visit http://www.gofundme.com/hcyjzo.
