George Zimmerman has, once again, evaded legal action: A domestic assault case recently filed against him was dropped and the woman involved has recanted her statements.
Zimmerman was arrested earlier this month on multiple charges of aggravated assault, domestic violence, battery and criminal mischief. According to the Associated Press, however, the ex-girlfriend who claimed that Zimmerman threw a wine bottle at her head after she told him that she wanted to end their relationship, recanted the story and stopped cooperating with investigators. (The officers in the case began their investigation after overhearing an altercation in Zimmerman’s house.)
“While it is clear that the officers had probable cause to arrest Mr. Zimmerman … the subsequent recantation by the victim of her initial statement … precludes my office from proceeding further,” State Attorney Phil Archer said in a statement announcing that no charges would be filed against Zimmerman.
