CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A North Carolina police officer is under investigation after a video has surfaced showing him sleeping in his cruiser while on the job.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have confirmed to WSOC that the video features one of their officers and that it happened Wednesday afternoon in Charlotte.

The officer was doing speeding enforcement in a school zone at the time, according to officials. Police have said an internal investigation has been launched.

The officer involved said he was suffering from a migraine headache and has admitted to “nodding off,” according to WSOC. He had been working a 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. shift, according to police.

Throughout the day, the officer responded to two traffic collisions, conducted eight traffic stops and one zone check in addition to patrolling his response area before the incident during his shift, according to police.

WSOC originally obtained the video by somebody who sent it as a tip on Facebook.
