On Monday 52-year-old Douglas Mess was reported missing by his sons. According to WKBW, Mess’ children realized he had not taken his medication, and they thought he may have wandered off or gotten lost. When he didn’t show up for work on Monday – they knew something was seriously wrong. No one could have imagined that he would be the victim of a homicide.
The NY Daily News says investigators conducted aerial and ground searches on the rural farm before unearthing Mess’ body that was hidden under a pile of horse crap on the back of his farm in Attica. Capt. Steven Nigrelli with the New York State Police spoke out to WKBW and said the process to find this body and to collect evidence has been extremely time consuming and they worked through the night.
Charlene Mess, 48, was arrested only 24 hours and charged with second-degree murder. She is currently being held without bail at the Village of Warsaw Court.
Capt. Steven Nigrelli with the New York State Police told WKBW, “The body was found by family and friends and it was a coordinated search. The discovery was by civilians.”
The motive for the killing has not been revealed, although close friends told WKBW the couple of 30 years was having martial problems. It is unclear if those problems led to his death. The investigation continues.
