An “eyewitness” in Baltimore delivered a chilling account on Monday of how a police officer chased down an unarmed black man and shot him in the back — except that’s not what happened at all, police said.
Baltimore Police were forced to correct the record after Fox News reported a police-involved shooting of a fleeing suspect. Police said no one was shot before they arrested the suspect, though a gun was recovered at the scene.
An eyewitness told Fox News on live TV that she saw a “young man” take off running as soon as he saw approaching police officers.
“Police just got out of the car and started chasing the boy,” the woman recalled. “And then he ran down towards the Metro PCS, the officer got in the middle of the street and he shot that boy in his back in my face.”
The woman also said the man was unarmed and she wouldn’t believe anything police said about the incident.
“This is what they are going to say,” she said, adding that she “watched it with my own eyes.”
The witness said she was about 20-30 feet from the incident. Watch the interview below:
Police later confirmed the reports on the police-involved shooting were “unfounded” and Fox News apologized for its inaccurate reporting during the breaking news event.
