For all the Libertarians, out there, who think Rand Paul can do no wrong, and are over looking what is becoming a long list of conservative faux pas, here’s another you might just want to take a look at before you pledge your allegiance and first born child to this POTUS candidate.
It seems Rand is dissing Republicans for standing up for voter ID. Most conservatives and independents feel this is the one area where Republicans are getting it right, but not Rand.
It seems he is afraid of offending the black voting block.
“Everybody’s gone completely crazy on this voter ID thing,” Mr. Paul said in an interview. “I think it’s wrong for Republicans to go too crazy on this issue because it’s offending people.”
In the interview, Mr. Paul also stressed his commitment to restoring voting rights for felons, an issue that he said black crowds repeatedly brought up during his speeches.
“The bigger issue actually is whether you get to vote if you have a felony conviction,” he said. “There’s 180,000 people in Kentucky who can’t vote. And I don’t know the racial breakdown, but it’s probably more black than white because they’re convicted felons. And I’m for getting their right to vote back, which is a much bigger deal than showing your driver’s license.”
Politico says Paul will do himself in as the race progresses. His weakness on foreign policy will most likely be the catalyst.
Matthew Beynon, a top adviser to former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, was eager to take a crack at the question: How do you beat Rand Paul?
“I would contend there’s not really one silver bullet, but there’s death by a thousand cuts,” Beynon says. “It’s not one issue. It’s a lot of issues.”
Beynon, like other Republicans (and Democrats) I’ve talked to in the past year, believes that, ultimately, Paul is just too far outside the Republican mainstream on foreign and social policy issues, and he is convinced it will catch up with Paul once the race actually gets underway.
Regardless of how you feel about Rand Paul now, there is likely more to be learned as the POTUS primary season advances.
