A Study Found That People Who Constantly Post Gym Selfies May Actually Have A Psychological Problem

We all know people who just have to let the whole world know they’re in gym. Well, it turns they might actually have a psychological problem causing them to become selfie-mad.


A study at Brunel University found that person who constantly brag about fitness tend to be fuelled by narcissism – a psychological problem where people gain pleasure from admiring themselves. Which then translates into annoying “sun’s out, guns out” kind of posts all over your timeline, in a hope for likes and comments to boost the ego.

Researchers surveyed 555 Facebook users and found that it’s the gym posers who get the most likes on their posts – ultimately getting them the attention they crave.

Narcissists also wrote more status updates about their diet and exercise routine, suggesting that they use Facebook to broadcast the effort they put into their physical appearance. The researcher wrote

The survey measured personality traits such as extroversion, neuroticism, openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness. It also found that Facebook users who post a sh*t load of updates about their boyfriend or girlfriend have lower self-esteem and that those who are more conscientious tend to post more updates about their children.
