Melissa Gilbert, the actress best known for portraying Laura Ingalls Wilder on the hit television seriesย Little House on the Prairie, has set her eyes on a much larger, taxpayer-funded house in Washington, D.C.
Gilbert announced on Monday afternoon that she would be running as a Democrat to challengeย Republican incumbentย Mike Bishop in the upcoming election for Michiganโs 8th congressional district seat. Bishop has held the spot since 2014.

Her Twitter announcement includes a link to GilbertForMichigan.com, where the actress says sheโs โrunning for Congress to make life a little easier for all the families who feel they have fallen through the cracks in todayโs economy.โ
โI believe building a new economy is a team effort,โ saysย Gilbert, โand we need to bring fresh voices to the table to get the job done.โ
Aside from links to social media pages, a newsletter signup and a link for contributions, Gilbertโs campaign page doesnโt feature much in terms of policies and opinions. However, considering the vast record of her past forever committed to record inย Little House on the Prairie, we at least have some idea as to what she thinks about healthcare reform:
