Four people are recovering from stab wounds Friday after trying to stop a sexual assault at a popular Baltimore restaurant, police said.
The fight occurred around 1:30 a.m. at the restaurant at 6526 Holabird Ave. Baltimore police said four men ranging in ages from 22 to 29 suffered stab wounds. A 24-year-old woman had been punched or kicked.
Witnesses told police that a man had sexually assaulted a woman on the second level of the restaurant. A male employee attempted to confront the man when he produced a knife and began assaulting other employees and patrons.
“The suspect groped a female employee or patron of the business,” Baltimore police Director T.J. Smith said. “Other employees and patrons jumped in between, (and) the suspect pulled out a knife and cut several individuals.”
One of the stabbing victims approached Amanda Brillhart in the parking lot. She advised him she was in the medical field as he lifted his shirt.
“He showed me it. His spleen was hanging out, and I was like, ‘Let’s go.’ He was still responsive the whole time. We were sitting on the curb at Jimmy’s Seafood, and I was just like calming him down and everything. He told me he had been stabbed,” Brillhart said.
“One of the bartenders was stabbed pretty bad,” said Laura, one of those who witnessed the fight. “I don’t really know what happened as far as the cause of the fight, I just know there was a huge scuffle until they got the people out of the bar, and people were still fighting.”
The sister of one of the victims, who did not want to be identified, said her brother suffered wounds to his intestines and colon. She said her brother is currently heavily sedated and will be in the hospital for at least a week. It is her understanding that he had just gotten off work and stopped by Jimmy’s for something to eat.
Police kept many of the patrons inside the restaurant for hours as they attempted to interview any potential witnesses. One witness told 11 News she was dancing when people started shoving one another, and that she was soon ushered upstairs after that.
