A man took a picture of himself bathing nude with his baby girl and posted it online for all to see. He did not get the reaction he expected: people actually praised him for the photo.
Torben Chris, a Danish comedian, says the photo was taken and posted to illustrate a point: “Nudity with your child’s not gross, but natural. A father in the shower with his daughter’s not [pedophilia], it’s fun.”
Chris decided to make this point after a man told him that he was accused of pedophilia by a stranger for bathing with his 2-year-old daughter. Chris found out another man was accused of something suspicious after posting a picture of his daughter’s French braid on her bare back.
Chris, a new father himself, saw this as wrong. He took a photo of himself bathing with his daughter and posted it on Facebook. He was all ready for the fight and willing to defend his position, but something unexpected happened: people praised him for the photo.
“Amen! I would almost go so far as to say, as a parent, you must bathe with your child,” said one poster. “Children need to see a naked body, see it naturally, how different bodies can look and how right it is… Otherwise we will end up with a totally disturbed generation who think everyone looks like a model without clothes on.”
The post was shared more than 60,000 times before it was removed. Very few posters made negative comments, which turned out to be a pleasant surprise for Chris.
