This headline is from the AJC’s coverage of President Obama’s gun announcement on Tuesday. And it’s demonstrably false. Nobody–not even President Obama–claims that his
modest extremely modest almost-nonexistent changes to gun laws are an “approach to ending gun violence.” ENDING? Virtually everyone concedes they will have no measurable effect.
So once I pointed it out, you noticed the AJC was lying to you. But if I hadn’t….
The press is so dishonest so often about guns and gun crime, knowledgable people barely notice anymore. Even when the lying gets THIS bad. The self-declared “fact-checkers” of PolitiFact.com reviewed this statement from President Obama.
“The problem is some gun sellers have been operating under a different set of rules,” Obama said Jan. 5. “A violent felon can buy the exact same weapon over the Internet with no background check, no questions asked.
Now, this is completely untrue. A felon can’t legally buy a gun in the United States–period. Can a felon illegally buy a gun? Sure! He break into a gun store, or steal one out of a cop car, or buy one from another crook in the black market? So saying that, without new laws, felons are permitted to buy guns thanks to a loophole is utterly false.
