Megan Mahoney, 24, is accused of carrying on a sexual relationship with a student at Moore Catholic High School while employed as a physical education teacher and assistant coach.
In 2007 Mahoney was named New York State Class A Basketball Player of the Year and went on to play ball for Wagner College. She later became the assistant coach of the women’s basketball team at Moore Catholic High School. And it was there that Mahoney’s behavior may have landed a crushing blow to her status as a law-abiding citizen.
She was arrested on 30 counts of statutory rape for an illicit love affair with a 16-year-old basketball player at Moore. It’s alleged that Mahony let the boy fill her basket at least twice a week between October and January of last year. She’s also being charged with four counts of “criminal sexual acts” for mutual oral sex with the victim.
The former athletic director at Moore, Richard Postiglione, was also fired after police discovered that he was aware of Mahoney’s relationship with the boy but rather than report her to authorities, he simply made her promise to stop.
