Recently, Reddit asked people who work for airlines one simple question: “What are some secrets that passengers don’t know?” The most scandalous revelations involved that nasty java.

As Redditor MuddButt7 explains, “Sometimes, the vehicle that fills the water tank used for washing hands and making coffee is parked next to the vehicle that is used to dump the [toilets] and fill the blue juice for the lavs.”

Coffee pots rarely (if ever) get washed.

Redditor WorsetoWorser writes, “The coffee is absolutely disgusting because no one washes the containers that go out every morning. The station agents who already get paid way too little don’t give a sh*t about cleaning them.”



In a Forbes article, contributor John Goglia said that even when the water tanks are technically clean, they’re still pretty dirty.

“We began a process to bleach the water tanks that hold the water. This is done on a regular basis. But it’s clear to anyone working on these tanks and their hoses that a lot of sediment still accumulates in the system…sediment that’s akin to pond scum.”
