Donald Trump has been hitting Hillary Clinton with accusations that she wants to abolish the 2nd Amendment. The liberal media and Clinton apologists have scrambled to defend Hillary saying she respects gun rights and just wants to implement some “commonsense” “gun safety” rules to keep the guns out of the hands of the bad guys. The problem is, Hillary has said too many times that she wants get rid of private gun ownership, with the latest coming on Friday when her surrogate asserted she doesn’t believe individual Americans have a right to own a gun.
Bloomberg reports that Maya Harris, Clinton’s policy advisor, says Hillary thinks the Supreme Court was wrong in ruling that gun ownership is an individual right and not tied to service in the military. She of course is talking about the DC v. Heller ruling that determined Washington DC’s near complete ban on gun ownership to be unconstitutional.
“Clinton believes Heller was wrongly decided in that cities and states should have the power to craft common sense laws to keep their residents safe, like safe storage laws to prevent toddlers from accessing guns,” said Harris.
DC v. Heller has very little to do with “safe storage” of firearms. It ruled against DC’s laws that banned handgun ownership and required that long guns be stored unloaded and disassembled, rendering them useless for self-defense. What the Supreme Court ruled was that gun ownership for lawful purposes like self-defense was an individual right protected by the Constitution.
