After the first commercial break on The View today, the ladies came back looking somber. Whoopi Goldberg announced that they had just received word that Officer Edward Nerohad been ruled not guilty in the death of Freddie Gray. He was one of six officers charged and is the second to be tried. Following the hung jury of William Porter, he is the second to not be convicted thus far, though Porter has a new trial date approaching.
Sunny Hostin, a former prosecutor, gave a very measured and slow response, saying that she didn’t necessarily agree with Baltimore State’s Attorney Marily Mosby‘s swift decision to charge all six officers. She said that while she didn’t want to throw the other prosecutor under the bus, the haste of the decision may not have been wise, especially if none of the cops were found guilty and people in Baltimore felt “that they don’t have justice.”.

Goldberg cautioned against getting too violent in reacting to this news before turning to the audience and telling them to stop looking so surprised.
“This is the world we live in and this is going to happen. We’re going to have to deal with all of this.”
When Joy Behar quietly said, “That’s a tragic story…” Goldberg responded, “It’s all tragic. Doesn’t matter who’s on the other side. It’s all tragic. Nobody wins.”
