While gun owners in airports used to be able to place guns in checked baggage when accidentally brought in a carry-on, that will no longer be the case starting June 1st.
The FBI says it will no longer tolerate gun owners who accidentally forget they have guns in their carry-ons while going through airport security.
While it hasn’t been uncommon in the past for TSA agents to send gun owners back to place guns in checked baggage when such incidents occur, that won’t be the case anymore.
Starting June 1, if you forget a gun in a carry-on, the gun will be confiscated and you’ll be slapped with a fine of up to $100,000 and sentenced to up to one year in prison. And that’s just for the first offense. Forget your gun a second time, the fine jumps to $250,000 and 10 years behind bars. That means no more accidentally forgetting you were carrying a gun or trying to slip one past those pesky TSA agents.
What do you think? How far will things go?
