On Friday, June 24, 2016, 42-year-old Christy Sheats called her two daughters and her husband, Jason, into the living room for a family meeting.
As the family of four grouped together, Sheats pulled out a gun and shot both her 17-year-old daughter, Madison, and her 22-year-old daughter, Taylor. According to KHOU 11, the two girls and their father ran for their lives towards the door of their Texas home.
Unfortunately, Madison didn’t get far before she collapsed and died.
As Taylor ran further into the street, Sheats chased after her and shot Taylor a second time, before going back inside their home to reload the five-shot, .38 caliber handgun she was using.
Jason, who was unharmed, ran to the end of their cul-de-sac to call for help.
As a Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office detective and Fulshear police officer arrived, they watched the 42-year-old put a third bullet into her daughter.
During a stand-off with the officer, Sheats ignored his orders to put her weapon down. Fearing she would take another shot at Taylor, who was still alive on the ground, the officer took Sheats’s life with a single shot.
Taylor was life-flighted to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries.
