Think sharks are only in deep water? Think again…
SULLIVAN’S ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Officials say a man was “nipped” by a small shark Monday while knee-deep in the water on Sullivan’s Island.
The Sullivan’s Island fire and police departments said in a news release that the 35-year-old was bitten Monday afternoon by a shark that the victim estimated to be 3 to 4 feet long.
The man, who was on vacation with his wife, was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Prior to Monday, the last reported bite on Sullivan’s Island occurred in May 2015. The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that there hasn’t been a fatal attack in South Carolina since the 1850s.
