As you may know, I grew up in Atlanta’s historic Old Fourth Ward neighborhood — it is a inner city community. It’s also a community that produced Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and graduates from its famed David T. Howard High School such as the New York Knicks’ Walt “Clyde” Frazier and Atlanta’s visionary mayor, Maynard Jackson.
I recently shared with you reflections on the ol’ neighborhood during my visit to Atlanta for the 98th reunion of the Society of the First Infantry Division. I stayed at the downtown Hilton Atlanta, which is just nearby my community, and the Atlanta Civic Center, where my high school commencement took place.I now reside in Dallas, Texas in a very nice neighborhood called Woodbridge. However Woodbridge is surrounded by one of Dallas’ toughest areas, and we are just a stone’s throw away from what I call the “hot corner” — Forest Lane and Audelia. Here in our little oasis we hear gunshots and on occasion the police helicopter flies overhead, searchlight shining down — last time was the Friday evening going into Independence Day weekend.
My wife and daughters get concerned, but I reinforce to them that the men and women of the Dallas Police Department’s Northeast Division will safeguard and protect us. And if anything were to happen, before they arrive — well, let’s just say we are well armed here.
I think I’m pretty qualified to address the recent events plaguing our nation. I have not lived some “silver spoon” existence.
Hillary Clinton just stated something that I find deeply offensive and patronizing.
As reported by Breitbart.com, “On Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” presumptive Democratic presidential nominee former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated, “I’m going to be talking to white people. I think we’re the ones who have to start listening to the legitimate cries that are coming from our African-American fellow citizens,” and called for greater respect and protection for the police.”
I have no issue with her call for greater respect and protection of our law enforcement officials…I would also say we need to have greater respect for our rule of law and system of justice. I would also say we don’t need elected political officials who get a really bad case of diarrhea of the mouth — such as the governor of Minnesota and President Obama, who speak out of turn and ignorantly about episodes for which they do not have the facts.Funny, when the Dallas Police Chief — whom I know personally — expresses the exact words of the shooter who killed five officers, President Obama obfuscates and gives some disingenuous response about not knowing the motive of the shooter.
As well, we now know the officer involved in the shooting in Minnesota is Asian or Hispanic, certainly not white, so the insidious and stupid comments from the Minnesota governor reflects someone ill-informed — or perhaps someone wanting to stoke the fires of a certain narrative for political purposes.
And speaking of disingenuous, insidious, and stupid rhetoric…this brings me back to the words of a true pathological liar, Hillary Clinton.
The last thing we need is for her to “talk with white people.” Mrs. Clinton cares little about the “legitimate cries” of the black community. What she does care about is a manipulative message of dependency and victimization.
Now, if she’s genuine, here are the legitimate concerns of the black community — which the Democrat party has never stood for, as they’ve been the party of slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, the Ku Klux Klan, lynchings, literacy tests, and poll taxes.
